Original Art by Marcus Sprigens
Marcus Sprigens creates original portrait, abstract and oil painting artworks.
Marcus Sprigens is a London-based artist working across oil painting, acrylic, mixed media, and sculpture. His practice moves between abstraction, surrealism, and landscape, unified by a consistent interest in what lies beneath the visible surface — the psyche, the subconscious, and the triggering images that emerge when process is allowed to lead. Much of his work begins with automatic impulse, relinquishing direct control: textures are built through chemical reaction, chance, and repetition, then read and responded to rather than planned in advance. Within these unpredictable surfaces, Sprigens looks for what the material triggers — creatures, faces, memories, moods that seem to surface on their own. Painting becomes an act of noticing as much as making. A dialogue between the material surface and the psyche. This tension between control and surrender runs through everything he produces, from intricate monochrome mixed-media works to expansive, moody landscapes in oil. Each piece functions less as a fixed image than as an invitation — for the artist, and for the viewer, to sit with ambiguity and find their own meaning in the texture. Sprigens has exhibited across London and beyond, including Ibiza Collective Exhibitions and Islington Contemporary Art Fairs, and has been featured in Imagine FX.
