Sailing On Perceptions IV places a solitary boat within a landscape transformed by David Heatwole\'s distinctive visual language of repeated marks, movement, and perception.
The boat remains one of the most recognizable elements in the composition, while the world surrounding it seems to be in continual motion. Trees, land, water, and atmosphere are constructed from hundreds of individual strokes that curve, gather, separate, and flow across the surface.
What initially reads as a landscape gradually becomes something less fixed. The repeated marks create currents that move through both land and water, blurring the distinction between physical objects and the space surrounding them.
The empty boat becomes an intriguing focal point. It suggests travel and direction, yet no traveler is visible. Instead, it appears to rest within—or perhaps upon—a much larger flow of visual information.
As part of Heatwole\'s Perception series, Sailing On Perceptions IV explores the possibility that the familiar world might appear very different if the movement, relationships, and information within it could somehow become visible.
