Just Breathe by Candice Bourne Enang (ArtyCanz)

The artwork ‘Just Breathe’ is a deeply moving and evocative artwork that resonates with viewers on a profound level. At its heart, the piece features a young woman whose serene expression and closed eyes convey a moment of mindfulness, prayer, and introspection. Her gentle hand placement further emphasizes an invitation to pause, reflect, and find inner peace. A striking element of the work is the decoupaged ribcage structure that encases a golden butterfly in place of lungs. This serves as a powerful metaphor for transformation and inner beauty, symbolizing the potential for growth and metamorphosis even in the face of life's challenges. The butterflies scattered across the ethereal sky, following a path of gold leaf, reinforce the theme of evolution, suggesting that true tranquility arises from embracing change and allowing personal growth. The use of vibrant colors and a harmonious background creates an atmosphere of peace, drawing the viewer into a state of calm. Meanwhile, the intricate African-patterned textiles adorning the butterfly wings add layers of cultural depth and complexity, reflecting the multifaceted nature of human experiences and emotions. The artist’s intention with ‘Just Breathe’ is clear: to inspire viewers to take a moment of stillness, to breathe deeply, and to seek peace from within, drawing strength from God’s transformative power. It serves as a poignant reminder that, regardless of life's storms, we hold the capacity to find serenity and beauty in our hearts.
